What is Lunar Rush?

Lunar Rush is a simultaneous-play Euro-style board game, designed by Steven "Skippy" Brown and developed/published by Dead Alive Games, that combines time-based resource management, market economics, bidding, and tableau/engine-building into a refreshing new genre. It has been awarded the Dice Tower Seal of Excellence, nominated for Dice Tower’s Best Game from a Small Publisher, named by many reviewers as their top 10 games of 2023, and maintains a 7.8 out of 10 score on Boardgamegeek.

In the game, you play as one of Earth’s four major corporate conglomerates, competing to mine the Moon for the newly-discovered “wonder materials,” lunethyst crystals and lunarium ore. Every turn, players use their GigaCredits (GC = VP) to bid for the best space routes to and from the Moon. The slower the route, the more you can load on the ship. On the Moon, players simultaneously upgrade their bases and place their astronaut workers to produce the resources needed to maintain the base, as well as mine Moon goods to sell in Earth's bustling dynamic markets.

The game ends after seven turns, and the winner is the player with the highest score as measured in GC!

The race to win the new gold rush is on!

Background Story

In the twenty-second century, humans return to the Moon and build bases for mining, research, and leisure. In 2148, an expeditionary team makes two remarkable discoveries: a previously unknown crystal and a new type of metal.

The crystal is named lunethyst and the metal lunarium. Both possess unique properties with applications across several industries including medicine, space travel, and technology. Like gold and diamonds, both are also valued and admired for their beauty.

Earth’s four major conglomerates (Shui Guo, CasCore, MinerInca and NEURO) immediately invest trillions of dollars, constructing new Moon bases near the richest veins. Here they refine the crystal and metal which is then sent down to Earth and sold for immense profit. This economic boom also triggers a surge in tourism and investment into building a permanent Moon settlement.

In short, the world cannot get enough of these “wonder twin materials”. By 2149, a “new gold rush” is under way: a ruthless, relentless race to mine and sell lunethyst and lunarium.
